A new endemic Actinia species (Actiniaria: Actiniidae) from the central Macaronesian Archipelagos Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den; Ocaña, O..
The presence of some endemic taxa of the genus Actinia from Madeira and the Canary Islands is discussed. A new species, Actinia nigropunctata, is described, and some characters of the poorly known Actinia virgata are discussed. In addition, we discuss the main characters proposed by Schmidt (1971) to distinguish species of Actinia.

A new species of Sarcodictyon (Anthozoa: Stolonifera) from Tenerife, Canary Islands Naturalis
Ocaña, O.; Brito, A.; Nuñez, J..
A new species of Stolonifera, Sarcodictyon canariensis, from Tenerife, Canary Islands, is described and illustrated. It is characterized by its large size, the form of its sclerites and internal anatomy. The material was collected at a depth of 95-130 m in the community of Dendrophyllia ramea (Linnaeus, 1758). S. canariensis is compared with other species of the same genus.

A survey of the genera Sarcodictyon Forbes, 1847, and Rolandia Lacaze-Duthiers, 1900, (Anthozoa: Octocorallia) in the North-eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Naturalis
Ocaña, O.; López-González, P.J.; Núñez, J.; García-Gómez, J.C..
Sarcodictyon catenatum Forbes, 1847, is a common species in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. However, often it has been mistaken for Rolandia coralloides Lacaze-Duthiers, 1900. On the basis of British and Mediterranean material we studied the main characters for distinguishing S. catenatum. We consider Rolandia coralloides Lacaze-Duthiers, 1900, to be a valid species and we assign to it all the material named Rolandia rosea by S. Weinberg (1978). Furthermore, a histological study confirmed that R. coralloides typically forms groups of polyps embedded in a common coenenchyme. Therefore, the possibility of transferring R. coralloides from Stolonifera to Alcyonacea is discussed. Evagorgia rosea Philippi, 1842, is here considered to be a nomen dubium.

Corallimorpharia collected during the CANCAP expeditions (1976-1986) in the south-eastern part of the North Atlantic* Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den; Ocaña, O.; Brito, A..
Species of Corallimorpharia collected during the CANCAP expeditions in the south-eastern part of the North Atlantic are described and discussed, altogether five species belonging to three genera of Corallimorphidae: the shallow water forms Corynactis viridis Allman, 1846, Pseudocorynactis caribbeorum den Hartog, 1980, and P. caboverdensis spec. nov., and the deep-sea forms Corallimorphus cf. atlanticus Carlgren, 1934, and C. ingens Gravier, 1918. The taxonomic status of the representatives of the genus Corynactis Allman, 1846, is discussed. All temperate to subtropical species described so far belong to a group of closely related allopatric taxa forming the Corynactis viridis-complex, possibly representing a single species only. The colours of Corynactis...

Corynactis denhartogi (Anthozoa: Corallimorpharia) a new species of soft hexacoral from New Zealand waters Naturalis
Ocaña, O..
A new species of Corrallimorpharia from New Zealand, Corynactis denhartogi is described and depicted. The species is compared with other species of the genus, particularly with the intertidal C. australis.

North-eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean species of Cornulariidae Dana, 1846 (Anthozoa: Stolonifera) with the description of a new genus Naturalis
López-González, P.J.; Ocaña, O.; García-Gómez, J.C.; Núñez, J..
The North-eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean species of the family Cornulariidae are re-examined and taxonomically revised. This family is mainly characterized by the absence of sclerites. Up to now, only one genus, Cornularia Lamarck, 1816, has been assigned to the family. Studies of the internal and external anatomy of the European species of Cornulariidae, carried out for the first time on a comparative basis, leads us to propose a new genus, Cervera. New combinations of the species included in the family are proposed. The main characters of Cervera gen. nov. are the presence of a fine chitinous periderm, various communication canals in the stolons and the absence of a additional chitinous layer that covers the periderm. Cornularia atlantica Johnson,...

Two new genera and one new species of stoloniferous octocorals (Anthozoa: Clavulariidae) Naturalis
Ocaña, O.; Ofwegen, L.P. van.
A new genus and species of stoloniferous octocoral from the East coast of South Africa is described and depicted. Additionally, a new genus is described to accommodate Sarcodictyon canariensis Ocaña et al., 1992. The new taxa are placed in the stolon-bearing family Clavulariidae.
